The Buffalo Soldiers, comprising the 9th and 10th Cavalry Regiments and the 24th and 25th Infantry Regiments, were established in 1866 during the Reconstruction era, after the Civil War. These regiments were formed to patrol the Western frontier, protect settlers, and maintain law and order in the vast territories of the American West.
