A Brief History Llamas have been around for thousands of years, originating from South America, where they were domesticated by the ancient Incas. These incredible creatures were revered for their soft fur, agility, and strong sense of intuition. In the Andean region, llamas were considered sacred animals, and were often gifted to Royalty as a symbol of wealth and status. In the United States, the first llamas were brought over in the 19th century as exotic animals for zoos and private collectors. Over time, their popularity grew, and by the 20th century, they became popular farm animals, used for their wool, milk, and packing abilities. Today, there are over 40,000 llamas in the US alone!
