A Brief History: Where Did It All Begin? In 1995, the National Association of People with AIDS (NAPWA) founded National HIV Testing Day to encourage people to get tested for HIV, and to raise awareness about the growing epidemic. Back then, HIV/AIDS was still a relatively new and mysterious disease, and many people didn't know much about it.
