The Magna Carta, also known as the Great Charter, was signed on June 15, 1215, by King John of England. This monumental document was essentially a peace treaty between the king and a group of rebellious barons who were tired of his, let's say, "questionable" ruling practices. This groundbreaking charter consisted of 63 clauses, many of which protected the rights of the nobility and the church. However, some clauses also paved the way for the protection of individual liberties, trial by jury, and even limits on the power of the monarch.
