Mardi Gras, oh how I love thee! Let me count the ways... or should I say, let me count down the days until March 4th, 2025, when this spectacular holiday takes over the streets! A Brief History Believe it or not, Mardi Gras has its roots in medieval Europe, dating back to the 12th century! The celebration originated as a Christian festival, Fat Tuesday, which marked the last day of indulgence before the 40-day Lenten fast. The name " Mardi Gras " itself is French for "Fat Tuesday," and it's no wonder, given the rich, buttery treats that are a staple of the holiday. Traditions Galore! Mardi Gras is all about excess, and I mean that in the best possible way! Think opulent parades, extravagant costumes, and of course, plenty of indulgent eats and treats.
