Honoring the Brave Hearts of the United Nations Peacekeepers As we approach May 29th, 2025, the international community comes together to celebrate International Day of United Nations Peacekeepers , a day dedicated to honoring the memory of those who have lost their lives in the pursuit of peace, and to pay tribute to the selfless efforts of the brave men and women serving in the United Nations peacekeeping forces. The concept of UN peacekeeping dates back to the 1948 Arab-Israeli conflict, when the UN Security Council authorized the deployment of the United Nations Truce Supervision Organization) to the Middle East. Since then, UN peacekeeping missions have been deployed to numerous conflict zones around the world, such as the Congo, Cyprus, and more recently, South Sudan and the Central African Republic.
