World Wetlands Day: A Celebration of Nature's Wonders February 2nd, 2025, marks the 44th anniversary of World Wetlands Day , a global celebration aimed at raising awareness about the importance of wetlands and their role in maintaining a healthy planet. This day has a rich history, and I'm thrilled to share it with you! The concept of World Wetlands Day dates back to 1971, when the Ramsar Convention on Wetlands was signed in Ramsar, Iran. This intergovernmental treaty recognized the significance of wetlands as habitats for waterbirds and other wildlife, as well as their role in maintaining water quality, preventing flood and drought, and supporting human well-being. Since then, World Wetlands Day has been celebrated annually to commemorate the signing of this landmark agreement.
