National Rugelach Day - April 29th, 2025

Rugelach, the flaky, buttery, chocolatey pastry that has captured the hearts of many - and on April 29th, 2025, we get to dedicate an entire day to celebrating this delightful treat! So where did this delicious holiday come from? Well, rugelach has its roots in Eastern European Jewish tradition, dating back to the 17th century. The name "rugelach" comes from the Yiddish word for " royal", and it's easy to see why - these pastries are fit for a king (or queen, or anyone with a sweet tooth, really)! Traditionally, rugelach were filled with nuts, cinnamon, and sometimes even fruit, but modern variations have gotten creative, adding in chocolate chips, caramel, and even bacon (because, why not?!).
