So, where did this amazing holiday come from? Well, way back in 1953, a dedicated teacher named Eleanor Roosevelt (yes, the wife of President Franklin D. Roosevelt) believed that teachers needed some serious recognition for their tireless efforts. She proposed that March 7th, her birthday, be designated as National Teachers' Day.
