This year, we're celebrating on June 24th, 2025, and I'm thrilled to share with you the rich history, cherished traditions, and joyful ways people observe this beloved holiday. A Brief History St. Jean Baptiste Day , also known as Fête de la Saint-Jean-Baptiste, has its roots in ancient pagan celebrations. The summer solstice, which usually falls on June 21st or 22nd, marked the beginning of summer in the Northern Hemisphere. The ancient Celts and Gauls would light bonfires to symbolize the power of the sun and to ward off evil spirits. With the arrival of Christianity, the feast day of John the Baptist, Jesus' cousin, was cleverly merged with these existing celebrations, and St. Jean Baptiste Day was born!
