Before we dive into the celebratory details, let's take a step back and explore the rich history behind this tasty treat. The origins of tortillas date back to around 2500 BC, in ancient Mesoamerica (modern-day Mexico and Central America). Made from corn masa (dried and ground corn kernels), water, and a pinch of lime, these thin, flexible disks were an integral part of daily diet, used as plates, utensils, and, of course, a food staple. The word "tortilla" itself comes from the Spanish word for "little cake." Fast-forward to the present day, and tortillas being enjoyed not only in traditional Mexican cuisine but also in various global fusion dishes, tacos, burritos, quesadillas... the list goes on!
