Historical Background Child labor has existed for centuries, with children as young as five or six working in factories, mines, and farms. The Industrial Revolution in the 18th and 19th centuries saw a significant increase in child labor, as children were seen as a cheap source of labor. However, it wasn't until the early 20th century that the movement to end child labor gained momentum.
