This incredible holiday is a significant date in the liturgical year, and I'm super excited to dive into its rich history, fascinating traditions, and how people around the world celebrate it today! A Brief History of Pentecost Pentecost, also known as Whitsunday, is celebrated on the 50th day after Easter Sunday. According to the New Testament, specifically in Acts 2:1-31, it commemorates the descent of the Holy Spirit upon the disciples, marking the birth of the Christian Church. The story goes that on the day of Pentecost, the apostles were gathered in Jerusalem, when suddenly, a mighty wind filled the room, and tongues of fire appeared on their heads, giving them the ability to speak in different languages.
