Falling on August 18th every year, this special day is all about acknowledging the joy and convenience of shopping from the comfort of our own homes. A Brief History of Mail Order Catalogs Way back in the 18th century, mail order catalogs started making waves in the retail industry. The first catalog was created by Benjamin Franklin, who sold scientific and literary materials through his catalog in 1744. However, it was Richard Warren Sears who revolutionized the concept in the late 1800s.
