World Mosquito Day - A Celebration of Victory Over Malaria! You might be thinking, "Wait, what? A holiday dedicated to mosquitoes? Aren't they just pesky little insects that ruin our outdoor fun?" Well, yes and no! While mosquitoes can be a nuisance, World Mosquito Day , celebrated on August 20th, is actually a commemoration of a major scientific breakthrough that changed the course of human history. It all started in 1897 when British doctor Sir Ronald Ross made a groundbreaking discovery. He found that mosquitoes were responsible for transmitting malaria, a deadly disease that had plagued humanity for centuries. This revelation led to a deeper understanding of the disease and ultimately, to the development of effective treatments and prevention methods.
