As we count down the days to this iconic celebration, let's dive into the fascinating history and traditions surrounding this special day. So, where did it all begin? Well, it's hard to believe, but National Airborne Day has its roots in World War II. On August 16, 1940, the U.S. Army formed the Parachute Test Platoon, paving the way for modern airborne operations. This pioneering unit, comprised of just 48 brave soldiers, conducted the first experimental airborne jump at Fort Benning, Georgia. And, as they say, the rest is history! Fast-forward to 2002, when President George W. Bush officially declared August 16th as National Airborne Day .
