This year, the first day of Passover falls on April 13th, 2025, and I couldn't be more excited to dive into the rich history and traditions surrounding this amazing holiday. So, let's start with the basics. What is Passover? Passover, also known as Pesach, is a significant Jewish holiday that commemorates the Israelites' liberation from slavery in ancient Egypt. The story goes that the Israelites were forced into slavery for over 400 years, until God sent Moses to demand their freedom. When Pharaoh refused, God sent ten plagues upon the Egyptians, the last of which was the death of every firstborn son. To spare their own children, the Israelites marked their doorposts with lambs' blood, and God "passed over" their homes, hence the name Passover.
