A Brief History of Bubble Wrap Believe it or not, bubble wrap has been around for over 60 years! It was invented in 1957 by two engineers, Marc Chavannes and Al Fielding, who were trying to create a new type of plastic wallpaper. The initial design was meant to be a 3D plastic film with air bubbles, but it didn't quite take off as a wallpaper material. However, the inventors soon realized that the bubbles made it perfect for cushioning fragile objects during shipping. And thus, bubble wrap was born!
