March 13th, 2025, is just around the corner, and you know what that means... it's time to celebrate our furry heroes! K-9 Veterans Day is a special holiday that honors the service and sacrifices of military working dogs, and I couldn't be more excited to share its history, traditions, and ways to celebrate with you! Did you know that the idea of using dogs in warfare dates back to ancient times? From sentry duty to scouting, messenger work, and even combat, dogs have been serving alongside humans for centuries. However, it wasn't until World War II that the modern concept of military working dogs took shape. The US Army established the War Dog Program, also known as the K-9 Corps, in 1942, and since then, these incredible canines have been an integral part of our military forces.
