National Small Business Day - May 10th, 2025
National Small Business Day is just around the corner, folks! Mark your calendars for May 10th, 2025, because it's time to celebrate the backbone of our economy - the small businesses!
Did you know that this special day was first recognized in 2011 by the United States Senate? It was a long-overdue recognition of the significant contributions small businesses make to our country's economy. Today, small businesses employ more than 50% of the workforce and create two-thirds of new jobs in the US!
So, how did this movement begin? The idea of National Small Business Day was conceived by Thomas & Scott, a California-based company that provides services to small businesses. They created a social media campaign, #SmallBusinessDay, to raise awareness about the impact of small businesses on the local communities. The campaign quickly gained momentum, and in 2011, the United States Senate passed a resolution recognizing the first National Small Business Day on March 29th. However, in 2014, it was decided to celebrate this special day on the second Saturday of May, which conveniently coincides with Mother's Day and the start of the summer season, making it an excellent opportunity to kick-start the summer shopping season!
So, how do people celebrate this special day? Well, it's all about supporting local businesses, of course! Many merchants offer special promotions, freebies, and discounts to attract customers. Some popular ways to celebrate National Small Business Day include:
- Shopping at independent retailers, boutiques, and family-owned businesses
- Leaving online reviews and sharing feedback on social media to spread the word
- Hosting or participating in local events, like sidewalk sales, craft fairs, and street festivals
- Showcasing the story and history behind the business to create an emotional connection with customers
Many small business owners also offer exclusive deals and loyalty rewards to their loyal patrons. It's a fantastic opportunity for customers to get to know the people behind the brands, learn about their struggles and achievements, and show appreciation for their hard work.
Did you know that 90% of consumers say they're more likely to shop at a small business if they feel a personal connection with the business? It's all about building relationships and trust with the community! On National Small Business Day, people come together to celebrate the unique character and charm that small businesses bring to our neighborhoods.
On May 10th, 2025, make sure to take some time to visit your favorite local spots, whether it's a coffee shop, a vintage clothing store, or a family-owned restaurant. By shopping small, you're directly contributing to the growth and development of your community.
So, let's come together to celebrate the entrepreneurial spirit, creativity, and determination of small business owners! Mark your calendars, spread the word, and get ready to #ShopSmall on May 10th, 2025!
