World Turtle Day was founded back in 1990 by the American Tortoise Rescue (ATR), a non-profit group dedicated to protecting these incredible animals and their habitats. The brainchild of Susan Tellem and Marshall Thompson ( founders of ATR), this special day aimed to spread awareness about the plight of turtles, many of which are facing extinction due to habitat destruction, pollution, and hunting.

Did you know that turtles have been around for over 220 million years, outliving even the dinosaurs?! It's high time we gave them the love and respect they so rightly deserve!
