Pizza Margherita Day is literally just around the corner, guys! I mean, can you believe it's already June 11th, 2025?! I'm beyond excited to dive into this amazing holiday, and I know you will be too, trust me!

A Brief History

You might be wondering, where did this delicious holiday come from? Well, it all started in Naples, Italy, back in 1889. According to legend, Queen Margherita of Savoy visited Naples, and a local pizzaiolo (that's Neapolitan dialect for pizza maker) named Raffaele Esposito created a pizza that resembled the Italian flag colors - green, white, and red. The queen allegedly loved it, and thus the Pizza Margherita was named after her!

Traditions

So, how do people celebrate this glorious day?? Well, first and foremost, you gotta make (or order) an authentic Neapolitan-style Pizza Margherita! The classic recipe consists of a thin crust, San Marzano tomatoes, mozzarella cheese, fresh basil leaves, salt. That's it! No fancy toppings or crazy combinations, we're keepin' it traditional here!
