His legacy lives on, and his birthday was chosen to commemorate the day to recognize the importance of sea turtles play in our ecosystem. It's a day to educate people about the plight of these incredible creatures and the ways in which we can make a difference.

Traditions Galore So, what do people do on World Sea Turtle Day? Well, for starters, many conservation organizations, zoos, and aquariums host events, workshops, and lectures to raise awareness about sea turtle conservation. Some enthusiasts even organize beach cleanups and coastal restoration projects.
